故事背景
UC0088年6月6日，新吉翁軍向地球空降先遣部隊，經兩個月時間的活動，於8月1日正式開始對地球進攻。 8月29日，新吉翁佔領達卡爾，並將大量舊公國軍及迪坦斯殘黨收編。此後一發不可收拾，10月31日，新吉翁實施衛星墜落戰術，終於迫使聯邦於11月24日同意將殖民衛星群SIDE3讓給新吉翁，以此作為吉翁從地球撤兵的條件。 然而，哈曼的文治武略無法令所有追隨者認同。新吉翁旗下的年輕軍官謝利美，在「獨自振興吉翁」信念驅使下於聖誕節反叛哈曼，率部從阿克西斯獨立出來。 在這一系列重大變動造成的複雜局面中，代表聯邦而戰的軍事組織幽谷，在以布萊德為首的領導層指揮下，持續著艱苦卓絕的鬥爭。成為這一時期幽谷主力的戰士，是以名叫捷多‧亞西塔的少年為首的一群來自殖民衛星的孩子，而捷多的座機，正是當年阿納海姆社以卡密兒為中心所進行開發的「Z」計劃最後的作品——可變型機動戰士MSZ-010「高達ZZ」，捷多的戀人露‧魯卡則搭乘Z高達，其餘同伴亦分別乘坐高達MKⅡ等機種……
